Uses of Quillay

Quillay or Quillaja saponaria is an species that can be found in the “litoral central” and the pre mountain area of the central valley of Chile, and its an endemic species of the country, belonging to the evergreen forest.

The Quillay has been exploited for its bark because  It has a substance in very high concentration called saponina but there are researches that indicate the presence of this substance in the wood and leaves of this tree (though in different concentrations), in is used to fabricate a lot of commercial products in areas like agriculture, pharmacology and food. Some medical uses are for bronchitis (cough mixture), cosmetic (some shampoo for the dandruff) or detergent, astringent and other like mining, ornamental and soil conservation.

This tree isn’t red list, (A list of specie take data of the tree and flowers and take list of endangered species in the world), but the practice of its  uses is very harmful  for his preservation, because when people make products of Quillay oblige to kill the tree in some cases such as the shampoo creation.q
